Under The Dome a bit Underwelming!

Pretty good story, but too many characters. It was confusing to me, trying to keep up with them. Fewer bit characters could have made the remaining ones more meaningful which would have made it more interesting and the characters more familiar. Not a fan of the “big” premise that was causing the Dome crisis and not a fan of the ending that felt rushed. and anti climactic.

A definite must-read!

Up until the very end where they explain exactly why the Dome was put in place, it was such an enticing story from all the conspiracies and controversies with strong political resonance with our own politics in reality. The actual explanation for the Dome however...I won’t reveal why, obviously, but when I found out why the Dome existed, let’s just say my initial reaction was, “...Wait, seriously?” Not in a good way either. But still a good read, and I found myself constantly looking up words along the way, so extending my vocabulary is always a plus! Onward to the TV series (which was the reason why I read it first, because that’s the proper way to enjoy a show or movie adapted from a novel)!

A monstrous tale, but worth the wait.

One of King’s three great “Uber-novels,” alongside It and The Stand. A high bar to compare this story to, no doubt, but for me, it didn’t disappoint. Don’t get me wrong, I had my doubts around page 500 or so. Like most of King’s books, it’s longer than it strictly needs to be, and a great deal of the exposition and character subplots are there for atmosphere, not plot related reasons. I read chapter after chapter of people treating one another horrifically, and it started to feel like just straight up torture porn. I wondered if it would pay off in the end. I can’t spoil too much, but for me it did. It’s all for a purpose, and it’s one that made 1100 pages all worthwhile. This one is in my top 5 Stephen King works of all time. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.

This is one of my favorite books by Stephen King. The only drawback some people may find is the length of this book. It is very long. I loved it though.

You still got it, my man!

I've been reading Steven King novels since I was 13 ( probably a little young for " The Gunslinger " but it didn't stop me from enjoying every page. ) now almost 40, I still find every one of his books thrilling, frightening, angering, inspiring and rewarding by the end of them. " Under the Dome " is no exception. Keep em comin, my man!! You never disappoint. ;-)

Pretty good but.......

I liked the story, but my biggest problem was the vulgarity. The story would been just as good without the "language" and detailed description of the violent sex acts. And i have to say i'm a bigger fan of the tv show.

Worth the investment in time

I would have rated this book 4.5 star if I could have. But, it was more worthy of 5 stars than 4. I greatly enjoyed this read. I read King avidly as a young teenager. It has been many years since I've read consistently for pleasure. At 41 years old, I can appreciate King books now more than ever. The ending wasn't as strong as the book as a whole. However, I was still satisfied with the ending. My only other lightweight gripe would be that I had wished for a more revenge filled ending for the book's antagonist. Human antagonist I should say. I suppose the dome was the other antagonist.

Fantastic Book

This book was by far the greatest (and the longest) that I have ever read! The suspense combined with all the drama was so great that it kept me interested throughout the entire book. Hands down, this is a must-read, five-star book!

Gripping till the last page!

This book is more of an epic in its scale and depth, the characters are brilliantly detailed in true Stephen King fashion. The storyline is gripping to the ver last page, I was hooked till the very last word.

Not My Favorite King Tale

But....not every tale can be a favorite. Right? ...or can it? At any rate, it took me 3 tries before I finally got into this story deep enough to not finish it. It was cumbersome to say the least. I think the thing that got me most was the lack of "caring" for the characters. It seemed they were all just merely names (and a lot of them!) I didn't care who lived, who died, who anything. I simply wanted this to end so I could get on with a new tale. Don't misunderstand. Mr. King and I go way back. Wayyyyyyy back over decades and decades of characters that I still feel nostalgic over. I Love Stephen King. Just not this book so much.

Good, Thrilling Read

Under the Dome is a perfect example of how good Stephen King is at crafting a story and developing characters. I love this book, and the meaning behind the story. I am not thrilled with the ending, but that has more to do with what I wanted to happen as opposed to the ending not working. The ending fit with the point (or lack of one) that King was pushing home. That's the only reason I give it 4 out of 5 instead of the full 5.

Oh my gosh, so good!!!!!!!! Totally recommend it,the only thing is its really long, and read it on the iPad not the physical book cause I read it in the physical book and by the end of the book it was falling apart it was so big!!!!!!!!!! If I can read it, anyone can. I started reading it when there was starting to be ads for the tv show and finished it way before the tv series started. Kinda mad how much they changed the show.

Decided to read the book after watching a couple of episodes of the tv show. Glad I did the premise may be the same and some of the character names, but was pleased with the darker side the written version takes. Well worth the time spent with it.

This is an excellent book. The characters are real, weird and real weird. Not quite what I'd call scary but it definitely has its chilling moments. I loved this book. Lots of ppl are saying the ending isn't any good. But it was the only way it could have ended. The characters were intelligent enough to try everything until they found something that worked. I don't think that's a bad ending at all.

Love this book, he gets a bit side tracked at times.. that is King for you. I love the concept and the end result though. Do yourself a favor read the book and do not watch the TV show, its total garbage. This book is so much better, they have destroyed any resemblance to a fine piece of work with this "show" on TV. 4 Stars from me. Minus one star for the occasional rambling.

He's still the King

The Shining has been my favorite SK book for a long, long time. But it's finally been replaced. This master storyteller has outdone himself with this so very down to earth sci fi novel. As gripping and enthralling a read as I can ever recall, this book is my new favorite!

I had read 11/22/63, which I think must be one of the most engaging and well-written books by Stepehn King, when I decided to invest many hours our of my life to be entertained by "Under the Dome". Ugh, what a mistake! I was offended by the antagonists not only because they were awful, but because King reverted to such painful stereotypes. I get it, religious wingnuts are bad, but that's like saying all politicians are bad. Just too easy. I felt terrible when I finished this book. A great author...Stephen King is that! This book: Horrendous on every level after the concept, especially the ending. My imagination was far better. I should offer a re-write.

It's long, very detailed and rich in characters. A great read! The ending was good. Lot's of human depth, good and bad. I am not sure I want to watch the miniseries as it will take away the very personal part of individual imagination. I mean our own imagination is what makes a great book even better... Our own visuals of the different personalities and events coupled with our very personal interpretation of events - that will always make reading better than watching someone else's interpretation. You feel this book and thank God you are not experiencing in real life what the characters did. Another superb work of literature by Stephen King. I hope to meet and talk to him one day. He must be an amazing person with a special intellect. I was totally moved by this book..nuf said.

How Else?

How else could it have ended? Another reviewer mentioned with SK, it's the journey - not the destination. In this book, the journey is definitely worth the trip. Character development is at a level where the reader gets an emotional attachment to all characters, whether it's negative or positive. You'll feel bad when a good guy dies and you'll pump a fist when a bad guy gets it. After it's done, ask yourself "How would I have ended it?" I'm sure you'll come to the conclusion, that the ending almost HAD to be that way. Ironically, I had to give it 4 stars instead of 5 for that exact reason. A 5 star book would not make me contemplate a different ending.

I bought the book because I wanted to read it before it aired on TV. After reading about 100 pages I realized I had to get it on my iPad. Much easier to read. Not comfortable with the language and criminal sex, but what a story ! All I can say is WOW....

Delightful. After some miscues, King is back in form with this one. King always has great characters and while he sometimes goes overboard with detail, I'm always excited to see something new from him. It may be insanely long, but certainly worth the trip.

Read the entire thing while on vacation during our travel and inbetween times. Book ended just fine, not sure why others said that. I was actually thinking something else was going to happen but he ended it back on course. I will now be waiting to see what happens on the TV show.

Amazing story, with nonstop action from beginning to end. Probably one of my favorites to date, and I've read nearly all of King's work. You won't regret it!

Amazing story, with nonstop action from beginning to end. Probably one of my favorites to date, and I've read nearly all of King's work. You won't regret it!

Pretty good story, but too many characters. It was confusing to me, trying to keep up with them. Fewer bit characters could have made the remaining ones more meaningful which would have made it more interesting and the characters more familiar. Not a fan of the “big” premise that was causing the Dome crisis and not a fan of the ending that felt rushed. and anti climactic.

A definite must-read!

Up until the very end where they explain exactly why the Dome was put in place, it was such an enticing story from all the conspiracies and controversies with strong political resonance with our own politics in reality. The actual explanation for the Dome however...I won’t reveal why, obviously, but when I found out why the Dome existed, let’s just say my initial reaction was, “...Wait, seriously?” Not in a good way either. But still a good read, and I found myself constantly looking up words along the way, so extending my vocabulary is always a plus! Onward to the TV series (which was the reason why I read it first, because that’s the proper way to enjoy a show or movie adapted from a novel)!

A monstrous tale, but worth the wait.

One of King’s three great “Uber-novels,” alongside It and The Stand. A high bar to compare this story to, no doubt, but for me, it didn’t disappoint. Don’t get me wrong, I had my doubts around page 500 or so. Like most of King’s books, it’s longer than it strictly needs to be, and a great deal of the exposition and character subplots are there for atmosphere, not plot related reasons. I read chapter after chapter of people treating one another horrifically, and it started to feel like just straight up torture porn. I wondered if it would pay off in the end. I can’t spoil too much, but for me it did. It’s all for a purpose, and it’s one that made 1100 pages all worthwhile. This one is in my top 5 Stephen King works of all time. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.

I've been reading Steven King novels since I was 13 ( probably a little young for " The Gunslinger " but it didn't stop me from enjoying every page. ) now almost 40, I still find every one of his books thrilling, frightening, angering, inspiring and rewarding by the end of them. " Under the Dome " is no exception. Keep em comin, my man!! You never disappoint. ;-)

Pretty good but.......

I liked the story, but my biggest problem was the vulgarity. The story would been just as good without the "language" and detailed description of the violent sex acts. And i have to say i'm a bigger fan of the tv show.

I would have rated this book 4.5 star if I could have. But, it was more worthy of 5 stars than 4. I greatly enjoyed this read. I read King avidly as a young teenager. It has been many years since I've read consistently for pleasure. At 41 years old, I can appreciate King books now more than ever. The ending wasn't as strong as the book as a whole. However, I was still satisfied with the ending. My only other lightweight gripe would be that I had wished for a more revenge filled ending for the book's antagonist. Human antagonist I should say. I suppose the dome was the other antagonist.

Fantastic Book

This book was by far the greatest (and the longest) that I have ever read! The suspense combined with all the drama was so great that it kept me interested throughout the entire book. Hands down, this is a must-read, five-star book!

This book is more of an epic in its scale and depth, the characters are brilliantly detailed in true Stephen King fashion. The storyline is gripping to the ver last page, I was hooked till the very last word.

Not My Favorite King Tale

But....not every tale can be a favorite. Right? ...or can it? At any rate, it took me 3 tries before I finally got into this story deep enough to not finish it. It was cumbersome to say the least. I think the thing that got me most was the lack of "caring" for the characters. It seemed they were all just merely names (and a lot of them!) I didn't care who lived, who died, who anything. I simply wanted this to end so I could get on with a new tale. Don't misunderstand. Mr. King and I go way back. Wayyyyyyy back over decades and decades of characters that I still feel nostalgic over. I Love Stephen King. Just not this book so much.

Good, Thrilling Read

Under the Dome is a perfect example of how good Stephen King is at crafting a story and developing characters. I love this book, and the meaning behind the story. I am not thrilled with the ending, but that has more to do with what I wanted to happen as opposed to the ending not working. The ending fit with the point (or lack of one) that King was pushing home. That's the only reason I give it 4 out of 5 instead of the full 5.

Oh my gosh, so good!!!!!!!! Totally recommend it,the only thing is its really long, and read it on the iPad not the physical book cause I read it in the physical book and by the end of the book it was falling apart it was so big!!!!!!!!!! If I can read it, anyone can. I started reading it when there was starting to be ads for the tv show and finished it way before the tv series started. Kinda mad how much they changed the show.

This is an excellent book. The characters are real, weird and real weird. Not quite what I'd call scary but it definitely has its chilling moments. I loved this book. Lots of ppl are saying the ending isn't any good. But it was the only way it could have ended. The characters were intelligent enough to try everything until they found something that worked. I don't think that's a bad ending at all.

Do yourself a favor read the book and do not watch the TV show, its total garbage. The Shining has been my favorite SK book for a long, long time. But it's finally been replaced. This master storyteller has outdone himself with this so very down to earth sci fi novel. As gripping and enthralling a read as I can ever recall, this book is my new favorite!

I had read 11/22/63, which I think must be one of the most engaging and well-written books by Stepehn King, when I decided to invest many hours our of my life to be entertained by "Under the Dome". Ugh, what a mistake! I was offended by the antagonists not only because they were awful, but because King reverted to such painful stereotypes. I get it, religious wingnuts are bad, but that's like saying all politicians are bad. Just too easy. I felt terrible when I finished this book. A great author...Stephen King is that! This book: Horrendous on every level after the concept, especially the ending. My imagination was far better. I should offer a re-write.

It's long, very detailed and rich in characters. A great read! The ending was good. Lot's of human depth, good and bad. I am not sure I want to watch the miniseries as it will take away the very personal part of individual imagination. I mean our own imagination is what makes a great book even better... Our own visuals of the different personalities and events coupled with our very personal interpretation of events - that will always make reading better than watching someone else's interpretation. You feel this book and thank God you are not experiencing in real life what the characters did. Another superb work of literature by Stephen King. I hope to meet and talk to him one day. How Else?

How else could it have ended? Another reviewer mentioned with SK, it's the journey - not the destination. In this book, the journey is definitely worth the trip. Character development is at a level where the reader gets an emotional attachment to all characters, whether it's negative or positive. You'll feel bad when a good guy dies and you'll pump a fist when a bad guy gets it. After it's done, ask yourself "How would I have ended it?" I'm sure you'll come to the conclusion, that the ending almost HAD to be that way. Ironically, I had to give it 4 stars instead of 5 for that exact reason. A 5 star book would not make me contemplate a different ending.

Delightful. After some miscues, King is back in form with this one. King always has great characters and while he sometimes goes overboard with detail, I'm always excited to see something new from him. It may be insanely long, but certainly worth the trip.

Read the entire thing while on vacation during our travel and inbetween times. Book ended just fine, not sure why others said that. I was actually thinking something else was going to happen but he ended it back on course. I will now be waiting to see what happens on the TV show.

Pretty good story, but too many characters. It was confusing to me, trying to keep up with them. Fewer bit characters could have made the remaining ones more meaningful which would have made it more interesting and the characters more familiar. Not a fan of the “big” premise that was causing the Dome crisis and not a fan of the ending that felt rushed. and anti climactic.

A definite must-read!

Up until the very end where they explain exactly why the Dome was put in place, it was such an enticing story from all the conspiracies and controversies with strong political resonance with our own politics in reality. The actual explanation for the Dome however...I won’t reveal why, obviously, but when I found out why the Dome existed, let’s just say my initial reaction was, “...Wait, seriously?” Not in a good way either. But still a good read, and I found myself constantly looking up words along the way, so extending my vocabulary is always a plus! Onward to the TV series (which was the reason why I read it first, because that’s the proper way to enjoy a show or movie adapted from a novel)!

A monstrous tale, but worth the wait.

One of King’s three great “Uber-novels,” alongside It and The Stand. A high bar to compare this story to, no doubt, but for me, it didn’t disappoint. Don’t get me wrong, I had my doubts around page 500 or so. Like most of King’s books, it’s longer than it strictly needs to be, and a great deal of the exposition and character subplots are there for atmosphere, not plot related reasons. I read chapter after chapter of people treating one another horrifically, and it started to feel like just straight up torture porn. I wondered if it would pay off in the end. I can’t spoil too much, but for me it did. It’s all for a purpose, and it’s one that made 1100 pages all worthwhile. This one is in my top 5 Stephen King works of all time. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.

I've been reading Steven King novels since I was 13 ( probably a little young for " The Gunslinger " but it didn't stop me from enjoying every page. ) now almost 40, I still find every one of his books thrilling, frightening, angering, inspiring and rewarding by the end of them. " Under the Dome " is no exception. Keep em comin, my man!! You never disappoint. ;-)

Pretty good but.......

I liked the story, but my biggest problem was the vulgarity. The story would been just as good without the "language" and detailed description of the violent sex acts. And i have to say i'm a bigger fan of the tv show.

I would have rated this book 4.5 star if I could have. But, it was more worthy of 5 stars than 4. I greatly enjoyed this read. I read King avidly as a young teenager. It has been many years since I've read consistently for pleasure. At 41 years old, I can appreciate King books now more than ever. The ending wasn't as strong as the book as a whole. However, I was still satisfied with the ending. My only other lightweight gripe would be that I had wished for a more revenge filled ending for the book's antagonist. Human antagonist I should say. I suppose the dome was the other antagonist.

Fantastic Book

Not My Favorite King Tale

But....not every tale can be a favorite. Right? ...or can it? At any rate, it took me 3 tries before I finally got into this story deep enough to not finish it. It was cumbersome to say the least. I think the thing that got me most was the lack of "caring" for the characters. It seemed they were all just merely names (and a lot of them!) I didn't care who lived, who died, who anything. I simply wanted this to end so I could get on with a new tale. Don't misunderstand. Mr. King and I go way back. Wayyyyyyy back over decades and decades of characters that I still feel nostalgic over. I Love Stephen King. Just not this book so much.

Good, Thrilling Read

Under the Dome is a perfect example of how good Stephen King is at crafting a story and developing characters. I love this book, and the meaning behind the story. I am not thrilled with the ending, but that has more to do with what I wanted to happen as opposed to the ending not working. The ending fit with the point (or lack of one) that King was pushing home. That's the only reason I give it 4 out of 5 instead of the full 5.

Oh my gosh, so good!!!!!!!! Totally recommend it,the only thing is its really long, and read it on the iPad not the physical book cause I read it in the physical book and by the end of the book it was falling apart it was so big!!!!!!!!!! If I can read it, anyone can. I started reading it when there was starting to be ads for the tv show and finished it way before the tv series started. Kinda mad how much they changed the show.

This is an excellent book. The characters are real, weird and real weird. Not quite what I'd call scary but it definitely has its chilling moments. I loved this book. Lots of ppl are saying the ending isn't any good. But it was the only way it could have ended. The characters were intelligent enough to try everything until they found something that worked. I don't think that's a bad ending at all.

The Shining has been my favorite SK book for a long, long time. But it's finally been replaced. This master storyteller has outdone himself with this so very down to earth sci fi novel. As gripping and enthralling a read as I can ever recall, this book is my new favorite!

I had read 11/22/63, which I think must be one of the most engaging and well-written books by Stepehn King, when I decided to invest many hours our of my life to be entertained by "Under the Dome". Ugh, what a mistake! I was offended by the antagonists not only because they were awful, but because King reverted to such painful stereotypes. I get it, religious wingnuts are bad, but that's like saying all politicians are bad. Just too easy. I felt terrible when I finished this book. A great author...Stephen King is that! This book: Horrendous on every level after the concept, especially the ending. My imagination was far better. I should offer a re-write.

It's long, very detailed and rich in characters. A great read! The ending was good. Lot's of human depth, good and bad. I am not sure I want to watch the miniseries as it will take away the very personal part of individual imagination. I mean our own imagination is what makes a great book even better... Our own visuals of the different personalities and events coupled with our very personal interpretation of events - that will always make reading better than watching someone else's interpretation. You feel this book and thank God you are not experiencing in real life what the characters did. Another superb work of literature by Stephen King. I hope to meet and talk to him one day. He must be an amazing person with a special intellect. I was totally moved by this book..nuf said.

How Else?

How else could it have ended? Another reviewer mentioned with SK, it's the journey - not the destination. In this book, the journey is definitely worth the trip. Character development is at a level where the reader gets an emotional attachment to all characters, whether it's negative or positive. You'll feel bad when a good guy dies and you'll pump a fist when a bad guy gets it. After it's done, ask yourself "How would I have ended it?" I'm sure you'll come to the conclusion, that the ending almost HAD to be that way. Ironically, I had to give it 4 stars instead of 5 for that exact reason. A 5 star book would not make me contemplate a different ending.

Delightful. After some miscues, King is back in form with this one. King always has great characters and while he sometimes goes overboard with detail, I'm always excited to see something new from him. It may be insanely long, but certainly worth the trip.

Read the entire thing while on vacation during our travel and inbetween times. Book ended just fine, not sure why others said that. I was actually thinking something else was going to happen but he ended it back on course. I will now be waiting to see what happens on the TV show.

Delightful. After some miscues, King is back in form with this one. King always has great characters and while he sometimes goes overboard with detail, I'm always excited to see something new from him. It may be insanely long, but certainly worth the trip.

Amazing story, with nonstop action from beginning to end. Probably one of my favorites to date, and I've read nearly all of King's work. You won't regret it!

Under The Dome a bit Underwelming!

Pretty good story, but too many characters. It was confusing to me, trying to keep up with them. Fewer bit characters could have made the remaining ones more meaningful which would have made it more interesting and the characters more familiar. Not a fan of the “big” premise that was causing the Dome crisis and not a fan of the ending that felt rushed. and anti climactic.

A definite must-read!

Up until the very end where they explain exactly why the Dome was put in place, it was such an enticing story from all the conspiracies and controversies with strong political resonance with our own politics in reality. The actual explanation for the Dome however...I won’t reveal why, obviously, but when I found out why the Dome existed, let’s just say my initial reaction was, “...Wait, seriously?” Not in a good way either. But still a good read, and I found myself constantly looking up words along the way, so extending my vocabulary is always a plus! Onward to the TV series (which was the reason why I read it first, because that’s the proper way to enjoy a show or movie adapted from a novel)!

A monstrous tale, but worth the wait.

One of King’s three great “Uber-novels,” alongside It and The Stand. A high bar to compare this story to, no doubt, but for me, it didn’t disappoint. Don’t get me wrong, I had my doubts around page 500 or so. Like most of King’s books, it’s longer than it strictly needs to be, and a great deal of the exposition and character subplots are there for atmosphere, not plot related reasons. I read chapter after chapter of people treating one another horrifically, and it started to feel like just straight up torture porn. I wondered if it would pay off in the end. I can’t spoil too much, but for me it did. It’s all for a purpose, and it’s one that made 1100 pages all worthwhile. This one is in my top 5 Stephen King works of all time. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.

I've been reading Steven King novels since I was 13 ( probably a little young for " The Gunslinger " but it didn't stop me from enjoying every page. ) now almost 40, I still find every one of his books thrilling, frightening, angering, inspiring and rewarding by the end of them. " Under the Dome " is no exception. Keep em comin, my man!! You never disappoint. ;-)

Pretty good but.......

I liked the story, but my biggest problem was the vulgarity. The story would been just as good without the "language" and detailed description of the violent sex acts. And i have to say i'm a bigger fan of the tv show.

Worth the investment in time

I would have rated this book 4.5 star if I could have. But, it was more worthy of 5 stars than 4. I greatly enjoyed this read. I read King avidly as a young teenager. It has been many years since I've read consistently for pleasure. At 41 years old, I can appreciate King books now more than ever. The ending wasn't as strong as the book as a whole. However, I was still satisfied with the ending. My only other lightweight gripe would be that I had wished for a more revenge filled ending for the book's antagonist. Human antagonist I should say. I suppose the dome was the other antagonist.

Fantastic Book

This book was by far the greatest (and the longest) that I have ever read! The suspense combined with all the drama was so great that it kept me interested throughout the entire book. Hands down, this is a must-read, five-star book!

Gripping till the last page!

This book is more of an epic in its scale and depth, the characters are brilliantly detailed in true Stephen King fashion. The storyline is gripping to the ver last page, I was hooked till the very last word.

Not My Favorite King Tale

But....not every tale can be a favorite. Right? ...or can it? At any rate, it took me 3 tries before I finally got into this story deep enough to not finish it. It was cumbersome to say the least. I think the thing that got me most was the lack of "caring" for the characters. It seemed they were all just merely names (and a lot of them!) I didn't care who lived, who died, who anything. I simply wanted this to end so I could get on with a new tale. Don't misunderstand. Mr. King and I go way back. Wayyyyyyy back over decades and decades of characters that I still feel nostalgic over. I Love Stephen King. Just not this book so much.

Good, Thrilling Read

Under the Dome is a perfect example of how good Stephen King is at crafting a story and developing characters. I love this book, and the meaning behind the story. I am not thrilled with the ending, but that has more to do with what I wanted to happen as opposed to the ending not working. The ending fit with the point (or lack of one) that King was pushing home. That's the only reason I give it 4 out of 5 instead of the full 5.

Oh my gosh, so good!!!!!!!! Totally recommend it,the only thing is its really long, and read it on the iPad not the physical book cause I read it in the physical book and by the end of the book it was falling apart it was so big!!!!!!!!!! If I can read it, anyone can. I started reading it when there was starting to be ads for the tv show and finished it way before the tv series started. Kinda mad how much they changed the show.

Started watching the tv series and decided that I wanted to read the book to see the similarities. Wise move. Just finished the book and it was outstanding! Much better than the series. So many more details and an attention grabbing story. Couldn't put it down. Haven't read any Steven King books in a while but now looking forward to his new book that will be out soon.

Decided to read the book after watching a couple of episodes of the tv show. Glad I did the premise may be the same and some of the character names, but was pleased with the darker side the written version takes. Well worth the time spent with it.

Great Book

This is an excellent book. The characters are real, weird and real weird. Not quite what I'd call scary but it definitely has its chilling moments. I loved this book. Lots of ppl are saying the ending isn't any good. But it was the only way it could have ended. The characters were intelligent enough to try everything until they found something that worked. I don't think that's a bad ending at all.

Love this book, he gets a bit side tracked at times.. that is King for you. I love the concept and the end result though. Do yourself a favor read the book and do not watch the TV show, its total garbage. This book is so much better, they have destroyed any resemblance to a fine piece of work with this "show" on TV. 4 Stars from me. Minus one star for the occasional rambling.

The Shining has been my favorite SK book for a long, long time. But it's finally been replaced. This master storyteller has outdone himself with this so very down to earth sci fi novel. As gripping and enthralling a read as I can ever recall, this book is my new favorite!

I had read 11/22/63, which I think must be one of the most engaging and well-written books by Stepehn King, when I decided to invest many hours our of my life to be entertained by "Under the Dome". Ugh, what a mistake! I was offended by the antagonists not only because they were awful, but because King reverted to such painful stereotypes. I get it, religious wingnuts are bad, but that's like saying all politicians are bad. Just too easy. I felt terrible when I finished this book. A great author...Stephen King is that! This book: Horrendous on every level after the concept, especially the ending. My imagination was far better. I should offer a re-write.

It's long, very detailed and rich in characters. A great read! The ending was good. Lot's of human depth, good and bad. I am not sure I want to watch the miniseries as it will take away the very personal part of individual imagination. I mean our own imagination is what makes a great book even better... Our own visuals of the different personalities and events coupled with our very personal interpretation of events - that will always make reading better than watching someone else's interpretation. You feel this book and thank God you are not experiencing in real life what the characters did. Another superb work of literature by Stephen King. I hope to meet and talk to him one day. He must be an amazing person with a special intellect. I was totally moved by this book..nuf said.

How Else?

How else could it have ended? Another reviewer mentioned with SK, it's the journey - not the destination. In this book, the journey is definitely worth the trip. Character development is at a level where the reader gets an emotional attachment to all characters, whether it's negative or positive. You'll feel bad when a good guy dies and you'll pump a fist when a bad guy gets it. After it's done, ask yourself "How would I have ended it?" I'm sure you'll come to the conclusion, that the ending almost HAD to be that way. Ironically, I had to give it 4 stars instead of 5 for that exact reason. A 5 star book would not make me contemplate a different ending.

I bought the book because I wanted to read it before it aired on TV. After reading about 100 pages I realized I had to get it on my iPad. Much easier to read. Not comfortable with the language and criminal sex, but what a story ! All I can say is WOW....
